Invitation Etiquette for Special Events and Occasions

“Never give a party if you will be the most interesting person there.” Mickey Friedman

How formal or informal your special event will be should be reflected in your choice of invitation paper, tone and formality of the correspondence. This ensures those invited are given and indication of appropriate dress, gift and return correspondence.

Those more formal occasions such as weddings, balls and special anniversaries are commonly presented on white or ivory cards with black ink. The addition of a coloured wax seal using a personalised or flourished seal can add personality yet retain the formal feel of the event. Handwriting or engaging the services of calligraphy adds a truly classic and personalised touch. For more information on formal invitations you can view our comprehensive wedding invitation etiquette guide.

Scaling down through the formality of events from baby showers, dinner parties and luncheons the personality of the event and less formal language and tone are appropriate. Coloured deckle-edged correspondence sets and inks can be used to give your event a memorable and less formal feel.
