In 3500 B.C in Uruk, Mesopotamia, calame was used to write cuneiform signs on clay tablets. Later, in 2200 B.C in Egypt people began to write on papyrus. Reeds from the Nile were sliced into very thin strips, then dried under heavy weights. At the same time, ink was made by mixing lampblack with oil.
This exotic Egyptian Writing set includes one reed or calame pen, one papyrus sheet and bottle of black ink “D’encre Noire” packaged with instructions.
